It’s on…

It’s that time again, time for our Annual “Spirit of Love & Giving.” Thank you to everyone who has already brought in their items and please continue to do so. Again, our office will donate 25 cents for every pound of goodies that our patients bring in! We will accept items through December 21st.

What can chiropractic do for me?

Help keep you youthful and healthy
All your life you've gotten your teeth, eyes, hearing, blood pressure and heart checked…how many years has it been since you've had your spine checked? Unfortunately most of us have never had this done – and it shows!

Most people's spines are suffering from a lifetime of neglect, and as a result discs are thinning, there is spinal degeneration (osteoarthritis), nerves are stressed and unhealthy, posture is off, energy is low, diseases are developing and premature aging is setting in.

Our goal in this office is to turn your health around by relieving you of a serious form of spine and nerve damage called the vertebral subluxation complex, or simply ‘subluxations’.

Subluxations are distortions in your body structure that can stress and weaken your bones, nerves, muscles, ligaments, discs, joints and even internal organs, including your brain. The effects can be immediate or they may take time – it depends on many factors such as age, diet and lifestyle.

Regular chiropractic checkups and adjustments can ensure that you and your loved ones live without subluxations, keeping your resistance to disease high and ensuring your body works at its optimum.

If You Exercise…READ THIS

Most of you know by now that I am a HUGE fan of exercise. What most of you probably don’t know is that exercise can be harmful to your health. I know that sounds counter-productive to you but the truth is that intense exercise (the type that burns fat) can cause oxidative stress and generate free radicals. A study I like (Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol (263: R992-R995, 1992)) found that exhaustive physical exercise caused increased amounts of oxidized glutathione in the blood after exercise.

Now for those of you that don’t know, glutathione is our body’s major detoxifier and oxidized glutathione is essentially “used” or “broken down” glutathione. So basically when we exercise we are causing stress on part of our bodies detoxification system. This is a problem for those of us who exercise. There is good news though! The study also found that supplementing with antioxidants before exercise reduced the amount of oxidized glutathione circulating in the blood.

In this study they used oral Vit. C and N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (a compound shown to increase glutathione) as the antioxidants. You could also take PaleoMeal before a workout as it has un-denatured whey protein in it. This type of protein has been shown to be very effective in increasing glutathione levels.

Chiropractic and spinal research

Is there any disease or condition you'd like to know about? Write us.

Chronic constipation. A 7-month-old girl suffering from chronic constipation with a history of painful straining and hard, pellet-like stools (once per day to once every 3 days) was brought in for chiropractic care. After one visit the patient’s bowelfunction normalized to one or two soft, effortless stools per day. Improvements were confirmed at a 1-year follow-up visit. (7)

Diabetes and chiropractic. Six patients with Type 2 diabetes underwent chiropractic care plus baseline measurements of blood pressure, pulse, electrocardiogram and plasma glucose levels were obtained. Patients were assessed 1, 2 and 3 hours post adjustment. The adjustments resulted in a stabilization of plasma glucose levels during the three hour fasting period.(8)

Erb’s Palsy. This is the case of a 5-week-old boy with a limp left arm. Clinical diagnosis of Erb-Duchenne Palsywas made. The child received specific chiropractic adjustments to the mid-cervical spine and an exercise program. Patient’s condition resolved with only a mild “waiter’s tip” deformity within two months. (9)

Another cause of Alzheimer’s

Some of you may remember a year or so ago when I told you that the Alzheimer’s rate is exploding and is something that is going to affect all of our lives in one way or another. At that point I gave you all some of my thoughts as to why the rates were increasing such as:

1) Mercury/Thimerasol in vaccines and other things (Mercury has an affinity for neurologic tissues)

2) Pollution/Contamination from the food we eat (especially fish), air, water, etc…

3) Lack of Exercise – Exercise has been shown to help dementia

Well, another study was released giving us another possible cause for this horrible disease. What is it…Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic Syndrome (also known as Sydrome X) is a pre-diabetic stage caused by a number of different things. The study (Archives of Neurology Vol. 64 No. 1, January 2007) found that persons with Alzheimer’s had an higher waist circumfrance average, higher plasma concentrations of Triglycerides and Glucose, and lower concentrations of HDL (the good type of cholesterol).

The amazing thing about all of this is that all of these lab values indicated above can be very much controlled by doing a few specific things like:

1) Exercising daily

2) Increasing Protein in our diets

3) Increasing healthy fats (omega 3)

4) Eating more fruits and veggies

5) Only eating grains with Protein

Sounds like a diet that many of our ancestors in biblical times ate to me!

Speaking of Dementia, What about Parkinsons?

A lot of you may not know this but I have a soft spot in my heart for Parkinson’s disease as my Grandma battled this disease for years and ended up passing away earlier this year. So, whenever I see a study on the disease I pay a little extra attention to it because of my family history. A study in The Archives of Neurology (Vol. 64 No. 11, November 2007) wanted to see if there is any relation between patients with high homocysteine levels and parkinsons.

I won’t bore you with all of the numbers from the study I’ll just give you the conclusion “This data indicated that MPS (mild parkinsons syndrome) is associated with higher plasma homocysteine concentrations.

For the many of you that don’t know, homocysteine is a natural by-product of protein metabolism. The problem we run into with homocysteine is when the levels get to high. The good news: Homocysteine can usually be controlled with vitamins B6,B9 (folic acid), and B12. Probably an even bigger help in lowering homocysteine is to eat green veggies.

Gardasil: new video reveals hidden dangers Importance: High
All vaccines have their dangers, but this genetically altered LIVE CANCER vaccine is especially deadly. As of this date at least 11 girls have died and hundreds more have become seriously ill from this shot. It is not even proven to be effective and many people doubt it is necessary at all.

Medical professionals are now admitting there are more dangers than they originally thought.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->

Think twice before you believe the scare-mongering put out by those who make money from the vaccine. Don’t blindly assume they have your best interest at heart.

Nutrition: high (good) fats = high health

Myth: A lowfat diet will make you feel better and increase your joy of living.

Truth: Lowfat diets are associated with increased rates of depression, psychological problems, fatigue, violence and suicide. (10)

Avoid low-fat foods. They are unnatural, unhealthy products that do not help you lose weight. Avoid unnatural or unhealthy fats such as soy, canola, margarine, corn and hydrogenated oils.

Using healthy fats from natural sources such as coconut oil; olive oil; organic butter; chicken, duck and goose fat; whole (not skim) raw milk and unpasteurized milk products as well as eating grass-fed beef and wild-caught fish will help ensure you live a long and healthy life.

This is not my article but is sounds like this Doctor has been following the late Dr. Weston Price teachings. I highly recommend his books and products. You can read more of his work at: www.westonaprice.org

Hope for Prostate Cancer Patients…And everybody else

This is a fantastic article! Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men and is usually treated successfully if caught early. This article shows another way prostate cancer patients can help their body get rid of this nasty problem!

Also, those of you who don’t have prostate cancer (or even a prostate) should read this too! If it is good at helping people with cancer I have a feeling it might be good at helping us prevent cancer!

Breastfeeding doesn't make breasts sag

This may come as a welcome relief to some contemplating breastfeeding. The overall health benefits to mother and child (over cow and soy formula) are so overwhelming that the question of whether or not to breastfeed should never have to be asked. Still it’s nice to know a woman doesn’t have to sacrifice her looks in the process.

In addition, women who breastfeed return to their pre-pregnancy figure faster and easier.

The Meatrix II

Here is the sequel to the first Meatrix video I posted in the October 2007 eNewsletter. I think that both of these videos do a great job of describing the battle we all fight everyday as far as what we put into our body.

Just because you find an "Organic" brand doesn't mean that your food is much better than the regular standards. Check out the following link to pictures of "Organic" farms that are really not any better than a "conventional" farm.

Special Flu Vaccine Report

“Years ago, people developed resistance the old fashioned way: By getting the flu. And then when that type of flu came around again years or decades later, they either didn't get sick or had only a mild case. The vaccine marketeers want to take that away from our population. What will that make us? Vaccine dependent, of course." – Barbara Loe Fisher, co-founder of the National Vaccine Information Center
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->

Three important reasons to avoid the flu shot:

  1. The flu shot contains mercury, formaldehyde, gelatin and traces of chicken cells.

  2. The flu shot contains viral contaminants that have been linked to cancer.

  3. You can get the flu shot – and all the risks that go with it – and still get the flu.
